Birding stops are many and frequent, and include such places as Tilmouth Well, Old Gurner Homestead, Dingo Hill, Lake Bennett, Freshwater Bore, Fairy Wren Drive, Babbler Bore, and Glen Helen in the West Macdonnell Ranges.

Bird Watchers Paradise

Birds of the Barkly Tablelands

This independent self drive takes you from Alice Springs through the Davenport Ranges to Lake Woods, Elliot and Tennant Creek. Visit key birding hotspots and a wide range of desert habitats including remote permanent waterholes in the ranges. Bird species include the Pink-eared Duck, Spotted Harrier, Black-tailed Godwit, Spinifex Pigeon, Flock Bronzewing, Spotted Nightjar, Red-backed Kingfisher, Spinifexbird, Red-browed Pardalote, and the Painted Finch.
